Data Network Sonification

In collaboration with researchers from Intel Corporation, most immediately Senior Principle Engineer Mary C. Murphy-Hoye, I investigated approaches for sonifying sensor and connection topology data from nodes deployed in a mesh network. Intel was particularly interested in applying musical principles, such as generative approaches to harmony similar to those employed in Hyperscore, to sonify the data recovered from Intel's sensor network deployed in cargo shipping containers for supply chain and security monitoring. Intel found the massive amounts of data collected from this platform are too numerous to be intelligibly represented visually. The premise is that structured musical approaches to encode the data allow for more information to be semantically reviewed or monitored in an ambient fashion than visual representations.
