Mechanical design and construction of the Eye Society robots is
being done by MIT undergraduate Eric Varady, under the auspices
of the undergraduate research opportunities program.
The robots are designed under the mantra, small, lighter, cheaper, initially to run on the 80/20 track installed in the Garden's ceiling. They are built using the Media Lab's fabrication facilities, primarily the laser and waterjet cutters. These days they are being made out of plastic after a couple of sparks convinced us that the combination of metal and bare boards might be tempting the electrical fates a little too severely. |
