A native from Sioux Falls South Dakota,  I early on developed an interest in photographic imagery,  studied at Southern Illinois University where I obtained a BS in Photography in 1978.  All of this leading to an interesting exhibition on new technologies in art
held at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago Illinois in the summer of 1978 where I saw my first Hologram. The rest as they say is history.

The LASERSMITH INC. Chicago Illinois

Owner and principle optical engineer March 1985 - January 1997

Oversaw holographic image company with sales of upwards of $900,000 yearly.

Responsible for the state of the art optical systems for mastering holographic images in all existing media; Photo Resist, Photo Polymer, Silver Halide, Dichromated Gelatin. Developed the first multi-camera system for high speed image acquisition suitable for real -time holographic images, trade marked as Holographic Moments this image line is the current largest selling image group in holographic retail outlets. Developed all the optical systems of The Lasersmith Inc. Developed the computer workstation that is used for the creation of all computer modeled and live image stereograms produced by The Lasersmith Inc. Experienced with all Ion Lasers, Gas lasers, Ruby solid state lasers. Experienced with Macintosh workstations and all related software; page layout, 3-D image creation, spreadsheets, word Processing, Photo manipulation. Experienced with Pentium DOS and Windows NT workstations and all related software and hardware: digital non linear editing, 3-D Studio modeling and animation, Digital Fusion image manipulation. Experienced with specifying Macintosh and DOS workstations for a variety of applications ranging from sales & Marketing, work processing, image creation and manipulation, digital image capture.
 
 

Smith & Cvetkovich Holography Chicago Illinois

Owner & Professional Holographer May 1980 -February 1985

Set up Midwest's first professional Holographic mastering Studio with Thomas Cvetkovich. Developed and sold holographic images to business concerns in the techniques of Dichromated Gelatin, Silver Halide, Photo- Resist. Developed Mastering facilities for the production of multi-color reflection holograms, HOE's in Silver Halide and Dichromate Gelatin emulsions, Photo-resist masters for replication in micro embossed materials. Named and developed the company Chromagem specializing in photo resist image creation.

Manager niteshift color print department June 1978 - February 1980

Managed all color print production related aspects of Chicago's largest commercial photo-finishing company. Trained production technicians, maintained chemical balance of all color print processors. Scheduled and color corrected all color print production for a photo finishing producer specializing in the highly demanding advertising agency and designer market.
 
 

Gamma Photo Labs Chicago Illinois

Cross trained technician July 1975 - August 1977

Worked in Color prints, Duplicate Transparencies, Ciba color Murals, Developed specified and trained individual in composite printing for the Dupe Department. Developed the trade named Ultra-Chromes for the product marketed by the same name, high end 35mm & medium format transparencies, still marketed by Gamma today.
