Movies could be created around a given topic such as "meals," or "a day at school." Here are some sample topics for movies
Important places that have changed or are changing
Where would you like to hang out
a day in my life vs a day in my parent's lives
Biographies
"Crib shots" short videos of your home
Brainstorm how to describe who you are
family histories
Documentaries
Video Experiments:
There are various ways to exploit the collaborative nature of this program, here are some ideas.
Create discussions, use video to conduct an asynchronous discussion
Collaborative movies
Have footage from different locations collaboratively edited to create one story
Compare and contrast features
Create a story from someone else's video, and then ask them how well you did
What's this there? Document some unique aspect of your environment and ask another group to document their analogous object.
Products
Creating larger audiences may give the kids inspiration, or ideas on new ways to go about the process
Film Festival
Two locations could do concurrent film festivals, showcasing films from both places.
The organization of the entire event could be documented
The event itself could be documented and the processes in both locations discussed.
Public Service Announcements
Public Access, or Community Television
Travel Agencies
Create a travel ad from the point of view of children, how does travel affect them?
What are the highlights of their location?
Make them for each other (opposite locations), and then critique
Tailor the projects
The projects should be meaningful to the children. That means the kids should come up with them, and choose the ones they are passionate about. These examples may work great in one place, but not in another.
