Sleep No More

The London-based immersive theater company Punchdrunk teamed up with the MIT Media Lab to create a unique type of immersive teleperformance in conjunction with the New York production of their popular theatrical experience Sleep No More. This project pairs online participants with members of the live audience during performances to actively experience a unique version of the show through a variety of media.

I worked with the Punchdrunk creative team and the Media Lab team to integrate the many facets of the experience. The resulting software backend I developed, called ‘cauldron,’ links an interactive, reconfigurable story-logic engine to online participants, specially-enabled masks for onsite participants, and physical ‘portals’ throughout the space. I also created the web-based frontend for the online experience and the online visual aesthetic that mirrors that of the real-world production.
