Image Relighting

This project presents a method for single-image relighting in the context of altering the illumination of an image for the purposes of visual effect. From a matted image of an object, illumination-invariant components of albedo and detail are extracted before the image is input to a shape from shading process. The recovered depth estimation is then used to introduce novel lighting to the scene and the albedo are detailed and reapplied. The applications of this method are intended to be generalizable to live-action image sequences intended for compositing into an environment where matching scene illumination is essential.
