Exertion Chaindrum

Having built the Tow Drum instrument, it was time to use some of the lessons in a second prototype. Also, it was key to getting a band playing together. It began with a discarded, but perfectly fine decent-quality Advent speaker.

This time, it would use two motors in parallel for greater output power. Notice the motors are labelled with their measured internal resistance to assist circuit modeling.

construction is simple- measure, then drill holes for nuts and bolts...

This motor has the shaft protruding, so it required some extra attention.

A small o-ring was created to isolate the motor from the surface somewhat.

some soft material was used to help acoustic isolation (another major challenege in this project).

of course, the laser cutter made this much easier.

zap! pow!

pew! pew!

zrrr!

ahh!

This stack of foam can be used for acoustic isolation.

So here is the full mounting hardware.

And the stackup.

dual motors mounted.

with drivers remounted, and ready for further modification.

original grill restored. This resembles the original speaker/music hardware much more than the "flashlight" designs.

close view of the gear. The two motors will be mounted on the same chain.
