Hi, I'm Noah Vawter, a.k.a. Shifty.

I have taken a break from Transmissions From The Garage, to do research here at the MIT Media Lab. Minimal Blog.

Bio

Engineer and musician Noah Vawter is best known for inventing the audio synthesis techniques combyops and 1-bit waveforms. In each of his pieces, he creates music and a new instrument with unique sounds, leveraging his math and computer skills to advance the art further along his personal direction. Sometimes this calls for reexamination of nostalgic musical instruments, other times hacking into mass-produced electronics or integrating large quantities of audio equipment. An unanticipated result of his work is empowerment through the liberation of information. And fun!

When not doing any of that, Noah relaxes by eating brunch, camping and traveling with his girlfriend, collage artist Elisa Archer. He is currently a research assistant at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
