[ Problem ]
- Provide dynamic information to mobile users (away from desktops).
- Adaptive filtering of information based on the contextual
activity of the user.
- Seamless capture of information in the user's environment.
- Structure information for different views into the data.
- New modes of audio communication between remote users
- Create peripheral interfaces that don't require active visual
attention.

[ Concept ]
- Use the metaphor of "Radio" to present active broadcasts
of audio-based information.
- Information such as voice-mail, email, schedule, weather,
traffic, music delivered to "nomadic listeners" on wearable
audio-only computing devices.
- Timely delivery of important messages based on time, place,
relevance, user's listening patterns, and desired level of interruption.
- Structuring simultaneous and spatialized presentation of audio
streams for efficient browsing of content.
- Indexing recorded audio for retrieval by listener and for
generation of structured web transcripts.
- Peripheral Awareness of users and Asynchronous voice messaging.

[ Architecture ]
- Active Emitters - act as Information Agents
i.e. plug-in filters for voice-mail, news, stocks, weather, calendar,
etc. (design your own). Agents act as filters that monitor information
services and send back relevant data to central server.
- Radio Server - manages and structures incoming information
for appropriate delivery to nomadic listeners. Enables awareness
& communication between multiple users. Also allows generation
of WWW-based views of recorded information.
- Nomadic Listeners - Maintains a model of user listening
patterns (messages heard, desired interruption, audio presentation)
and contextual activity of user (via time, position - IR &
GPS, prior tasks, calendar, environmental sound) to dynamically
create personalized 3D audio presentation as Active Broadcasts
in the listener's personal audio space. Allows recording (Transmissions),
retrieval (Tuning) and communication (2-way Asynchronous
Transmissions) with other users.

[ Applications ]
- Personal Audio Assistant: Provides personalized news,
traffic/weather/stock reports, vmail, email, calendar, & music.
Modeling of user's listening patterns and daily tasks for timely
delivery of audio messages. Allow voice communication with remote
users.
- Radio-Web Journalist: Scenario - Journalist in Bosnia
transmits latest report via a networked wearable computer. The
recorded audio is structured with time, place, images and contextual
information for dynamic generation of WWW-based news transcripts.
- Wireless Theater: creating and experiencing radio-like
narratives through nomadic actors in physical environments.
