Connecting people through music: making music with anyone, anywhere

Ever wondered what to expect after the iPod? We've already got devices to create music at home and to listen to music while running, so what's next? How about making music while on the move, or jamming with friends who live on the other side of the planet? At the Media Lab's Music, Mind and Machine Group, we combine our understanding of human listening with engineering techniques from a variety of fields to develop intelligent music systems for future interactive media applications. In this Small Talk, I will present my group's recent and current research that proposes to change the way music is conceived, created, transmitted and experienced by taking into account diverse cultures and incorporating distributed processing.
