Limitation of Cubase SX and MIDI clock:
After having spent a considerable amount of time cloning the MidiClock application
(successfully), I have discovered that MIDI clock is not a suitable means of
synchronization for my situation. The current setup of our laptop ensemble includes
Cubase SX, which is able to function solely as a master MIDI clock. If we were
to use MIDI clock as a means of synchronization Cubase SX would have to be the
master. In this situation, no other application or user would have control over
the tempo and transport settings.
This was not the case with Cubase VST, however. It is possible to slave this application
to MIDI clock. Here are some more differences between the two applications: http://www.blueshiftstudio.com/sxvvst.html.
Thus, either Cubase SX will have to be phased out of our setup, or an alternative
method of synchronization will be needed. I am currently researching MIDI Timecode
(MTC).
