applications to reliable, efficient communication
systems. Mathematical definition and properties of information. The
source coding theorem. Lossless compression of data, including
adaptive compression for unknown source statistics. Noisy
communication channels, the data processing theorem, and fundamental
limits on decoding error. Introduction to algebraic and convolutional
error correction coding techniques.
