making a no-slip coaster for your LilyPad

Make a soft "coaster" backing for your LilyPad so that alligator clips won't slip and slide when they're clipped on. Alligator clips are great for prototyping designs. Trust me, it's worth it to do this if you're going to be using clips!

1. Get your supplies

  • a piece of craft foam ($1)
  •     available from Joanns or your local craft shop.
you can also use thick fabric like felt, a piece of rubber, etc.
the idea is to add thickness and grip to the back of the LilyPad.
  • a pen
  • scissors

  • TOTAL COST ~$1

2. Trace the outline of the LilyPad on your foam or other material.

3. Cut out your coaster.

4. Clip your LilyPad back to your attachment setup.

The alligator clips should now have a nice sturdy grip on the LilyPad, with good electrical contact and no slipping.

5. Cut out coasters for LilyPad sensors and actuators.

If you got sensors and actuators to play with, cut coasters for them too. This will allow you to easily use alligator clips to prototype designs.
