"Touch me/Fur Cubes"

"Touch me/Fur Cubes" is an art piece consisting of a group of fur-covered cubes suspended from the ceiling. When someone touches a fur cube and sets it in motion, an accelerometer triggers an audio sample, which issues from the object itself. These audio samples are recordings of women saying "I love you." The fur cubes draw the viewer in close, engaging them with the sentiment they express.

As a vie
wer passes through the cloud of suspended objects, he or she triggers many of them, producing a multiphonic effect. The whispers come in from all sides as the objects swing back and forth. Gradually the whole system settles back to a motionless, quiet state, waiting to be triggered again.

The piece is meant to be both playful and ghostly. I am also interested in how this piece interacts with people's notions of (talking, electronic) toys and art.

I hope to post some video at some point.
