211 of the Best Films I Can Remember

this list was compiled when a friend of mine had a budget to build a film library for his university dorm. he asked me what movies he should buy. then someone else asked me a similar question. at some point i decided to maintain the list of movies i recommend watching.

the best way to think about this list is that it contains the movies would you probably want in a large-ish film library. another way to look at it is if you have time and want to rent a movie - any movie on this list is worth the walk to the video store and an evening in front of the tube.

editorial note #1 I have used the US release names for all movies, even for foreign ones, just to keep a uniform standard across this list.

editorial note #2 Also, I have ignored special characters in films' and directors' names for easier machine-readability. I know it's a compromise.
