Audiophoto Desk
with David Frohlich, John Robinson, Tony Clancy

Audio Photo Desk is "an inclusive way of reviewing audiophotos from physical prints. An overhead camera and hidden computer are used to recognize a printed photograph and play its associated sound automatically". Designed by David Frohlich (HP Laboratories), it was build as a collaboration between the University of Central Lancashire and the University of York.

I designed and implemented the computer vision and sound reproduction systems of the Audiophoto desk. The system recognizes physical photo prints on the desk and reproduces associated sounds. The position of each photo is mapped to sound reproduction parameters. The implementation is in C++ on Linux and works in real time.

The prototype was successfully exhibited at the Helen Hamlyn show 2003 at the RCA in London. The desk is also part of the Responsive Home of the Centre for Usable Home Technology (CUHTEC) at the University of York.
