... Imaginary Drum Kit

This project is a mobile full drum kit without real drums or instruments. This imaginary drum kit can detect drum sticks' hitting positions by capacitive sensing, detect hitting timing and velocity by accelerometers, be easily moved and carried, and run without external installations.

A backpack provides the base station for the capacitive sensors, and a user will play a imaginary drum with two drum sticks by hitting the air with them.
... Lover's Cups

Lover's Cups explore the idea of sharing feelings of drinking between two people in different places by using cups as communication interfaces of drinking. Two cups are wireless connected to each other with sip sensors and LED illumination. The Lover's cups will glow and celebrate when your lover is drinking.

... Information Area Browsing Gloves

Spatial concepts can be used for information organizing and browsing with connecting the conceptual information world to the physical world. People have been using spaces and areas to organize information since ancient Greek times, as we can see in the method of loci and Mateo Ricci's memory palace. Also, people have spatial metaphors some of which are common to many people. Using these two features of spatial concepts, we can use a physical space as an information space to browse.

Users can organize their information or topics into the space and browse the information by walking through the space. For example, news can be accessed in a living-room while weather forecasts can be provided near a window. In addition, these information spaces could be bi-directional to serve as hubs where information is exchanged.

In this project, the glove is used for a user interface to pick and store information from/to the specific location and the plugs are used for location detecting system.
... Asiaq : Ambient Weather Display Tree

Asiaq is an ambient weather display with a potted plant. It focused on helping people to "feel" the outdoor weather rather than to know the numbers about the weather.
The swinging/trembling leaves showed the wind velocity, the colors of the pot showed the outdoor temperature, and the rain was noticed by sounds. Smell was also considered as expressions for the humidity.

... GlobalMind

Every culture has its own common sense in its own language. Although some common sense might be same across the cultures, sometimes it might be different or at least not exactly the same. For example, in American stock markets, a "red arrow" means a stock price goes down while the same "red arrow" in Korean stock markets means a stock price goes up. Sometimes, words in different languages often have similar but different conceptual borders. In American English, a spoon is an oval concave utensil made of metal for soup or tea, which are not main dishes. In Korea, a "spoon" is a round and much flatter utensil made of metal for a main dish, and a Japanese "spoon" is made of ceramics and is rarely used.

GlobalMind is a network of common sense of different cultures and languages. It is the gathering of common sense of different cultures which are written in their own languages to solve these problems with common sense knowledge of each culture. With volunteering netizens' help, we will be able to see the differences and the similarities among cultures. Our goal is finding the way of bridging the gap between different cultures and languages.

GlobalMind applications are focused on how to solve the problems caused from misunderstandings and culture shocks. It varies from cultural dictionaries and culture-based machine translators to Intercultural Personal Assistants.

This is my Master's thesis project.
... Korean ConceptNet
Korean ConceptNet was a project to translate the English ConceptNet to the Korean ConceptNet. This project inspired us to start the GlobalMind project.
