I am a Ph.D. candidate at the MIT Media Lab, where I am a member of the Opera of the Future research group under Professor Tod Machover. My current research work explores the intersection of performance, gesture, and machine learning. I am especially interested in creating new tools for analyzing and working with expressive movement, often in the context of live performance. I also focus on the ways that technology and the arts can combine to create new means of expression and qualities of experience.
My background is in the performing arts (including stage and costume design, choreography, stage direction, and choral conducting), and computer science. I graduated from Amherst College in the spring of 2008 with a double major in Computer Science and Theater and Dance and began my studies at the Media Lab in the fall of 2008. I will complete my studies at the Media Lab in summer 2014.
