As an introduction to user centered design methods, we undertook a semester long investigation into bike messengers. Based on what we learned through interviews, observation, and reading, we used a variety of design methods including personas, card sorting, conceptual mapping, and modeling. Based on our research we designed two products; a chemical based cell phone warmer to increase cell phone performance in cold weather and a heavy duty clothing repair tape to increase the usable life of jackets, pants, and bags.
