A genetic algorithm technology from the year 2046, the Beacon is a last ditch effort by those who believe in evolution to leave evidence of that idea to the future. Recognizing that government, media, religion, science, all other sites of cultural production forbid the teaching of evolutionary principals, a group of political dissidents has created a genetic time capsule to transmit their beliefs.

  Within the alloy box you see before you, lies a genetic environment. It is a zoo with particular rules of survival. For every generation born, the individual genotype/phenotype (pattern and presence) is successful based on their similarity to an ideal form. The individuals are strings of numbers, 0-255, which may also be interpreted as 256 different textual "characters." These characters, in strings from 0-256 characters long, create the individual genotype/phenotype.

is a 29 character long string.

The survival of a genotype/phenotype individual is dependent on their similarity to a model type. After each generation, the best 10 of 60 individuals are selected, and five clones with .05% random travel for each character in the string, are created. Together, this group of sixty individual form the next generation.
