Hall
of Asian Mammals,
American Museum of Natural History
We
propose an interface which provides "flashlights" for
visitors to explore the space within the existing dioramas. When
visitors shine the flashlight onto an active area of the scene,
additional information would be projected onto the diorama surfaces
from projectors up above.
We
believe such an interface would encourage visitors to look more
closely at the existing artifacts as well as provide a mechanism
to provide additional context of the habitat and cultural and historical
issues. It also provides a mechanism to bring life in the dioramas
and for display of related information in the appropriate context
while leaving the existing historical dioramas intact.

Examples
of content for projections:
• video clips of additional animals present in the presented
habitat (eg. egrets flying above water buffalo)
• small parsed facts about the
animals/plants/habitat of the scene
• examples of historical cultural artifacts related to animals
or plants in the scene
• current related cultural or political information (eg. endangered
species) |
