Aaron Dollar

Welcome to Aaron Dollar's Academic Homepage.

I will begin as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Yale University in January of 2009.

My research involves robotic grasping and manipulation, prosthetics, and rehabilitation robotics.

I am currently seeking exceptional PhD students for projects in these areas. Applicants should have a background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a closely related field. Quality of the applicant is more important than specific background, although hardware and experimental experience is preferable. Interested students should contact me and provide a copy of their resume and a brief description of their interests for graduate school.

About Me:
I finished my PhD in 2006 at Harvard University, working in the Harvard BioRobotics Laboratory under Professor Robert D. Howe. My dissertation research focused on the design of compliant robot hands for use in unstructured environments. Along the way I specialized in optimum design, rapid prototyping, biomimetic systems, minimalist robotics, and tactile sensing.

I am currently a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT, working in the Biomechatronics Laboratory under Professor Hugh Herr. At MIT I am working on research involving active exoskeletons and orthoses for the lower limbs.

I did my undergraduate work at UMass Amherst in Mechanical Engineering.

I am the co-founder and editor of RoboticsCourseware.org, an open-access online repository for university-level robotics curricula.
