[ongoing] in the form of sound this project proposes a room-scale installation that experiments the possibility of using interactive sound as a form to inform the function of a space. a project grew out of my final project for sensor technologies class at the lab.

[ongoing] ambient intelligence for future public spaces this is a design proposal for the future of public urban spaces. it serves as the foundation of my current work in public art/intervention. i envision a city as a huge playground where people will have infinite different ways of play with the objects and people that share the city space with them.

the stackable concept car design a novel concept car design inspired by shopping carts and foldable structure. working in the design team of the smart cities group at the mit media lab. when folded it's almost half the size of a Smart. we also designed an innovative design on controlling and driving interface.

54 sites of cultural importance designed for a local community group "Save The Shimokita" that fights against a problematic new master plan for the Shimokitazawa area of Tokyo, Japan. working with the local community we chose 54 "beautiful" scenes of the neighborhood and made a set of postcards for them. The cards are used for raising the awareness, and possibly funds for the organization.

your memory, connected I, II, III this project addresses the emerging phenomenon of storing every piece of one's life memories (in the form of digital images in our project) online for sharing. i examine the meaning and effects of this very act through several art work that uses flickr.com as an example.

[ongoing] interactive lighting experiments i conducted several experiments that showed a variety of interactions between LEDs and different materials. four design prototypes are made, under the same theme that uses architectural elements as interactive information displays.

newscast index image

newscast using the water metaphor, newscast provides "streams of news" to viewers, and physical knobs to "mix" different news sources. newscast creates an informative and non-intrusive interface for navigating through news.

snowglobe index image

community snowglobe "snowglobe" is an ambient display that captures and visualizes facial expressions of people approaching it, with a tangible interface for activating it physically. People can actually turn the snowglobe to check out the memory of the space and see who share the space with them.
